The naming of the Koorabup Motel People often ask about the origins of the name Koorabup. Koorabup is an Aboriginal name. It means "the place of the black swan", and was the name given to the Denmark River. It is thought that Koorabup would almost certainly have become the name of the town if the explorer TB Wilson had not named the river after his naval colleague, Alexander Denmark.
